According to the AJC, Dekalb County recently Oasis Goodtime Emporium was ordered to pay a 1.9 million fine or 10,000 a day due to over 200 violations from the years 2016-2018. Superior Court Judge Asha Jackson stated that Doraville had the ability in June to shut down Oasis if the continuation of alcohol code violations continue to occur. The establishment was seen serving alcohol in May despite the fact of not having a license to serve alcohol at the current moment. Regardless of the circumstances, when authorities arrived they found dozens of beer bottles that had been sold to the public.
Despite being ordered to shut down, Oasis continued to run their establishment and filed a lawsuit against Doraville accusing them of targeting Oasis with fines and citations. they have appealed both rulings, the court system is well within their right to shut this establishment down if the alcohol regulations are not being followed.
Doraville city leaders seem very eager to push establishments like this out of their neighborhoods. With high hopes of Doraville being remembered for more than the mediocre strip clubs and neon lights, Councilman Andy Yeoman does not seem like he is a huge fan of these establishments and may have desires of it being permanently removed.
